To Lock a Machine (Disable F8 and other boot option keys):

 

Step 1: Copy NOSafeMode.exe and NOSafeMode.dll to the machine, or have it on a removable media.

 

Step 2: Run NOSafeMode.exe in the machine (from hard drive or removable media).

NOTE: In Windows Vista™/Windows 7™: Right-Click on NOSafeMode.exe and Select: “Run as Administrator”.

 

Step 3: Check/Uncheck “Allow boot options by boot password entry” box according to your preference:

If you leave this option CHECKED, you can press CTRL+F8 when booting to enter the lock password and then boot normally (being able to go into safe mode and/or choose other boot options).

If you UNCHECK this option, you’ll only be able to boot normally after unlocking the machine by running NoSafeMode and entering the password used to lock it.

 

Step 4: Choose a Lock Password and enter it on the Password Box (The White Box Below):

 

 

Step 5: Re-Enter the chosen Lock Password for verification in the second white Box (As Shown Below):

 

 

Step 6: Press the “LOCK” Button. The Following Confirmation Message Should Appear:

 

 

That’s it! Your machine is now locked and no user will be able to use F8 and other boot option keys until you choose to unlock the boot process of the machine (As described below).

 

To Unlock a Machine (Enable F8 and other boot option keys):

 

Step 1: Copy NOSafeMode.exe and NOSafeMode.dll to the machine, or have it on a removable media.

 

Step 2: Run NOSafeMode.exe in the machine (from hard drive or removable media).

NOTE: In Windows Vista™/Windows 7™: Right-Click on NOSafeMode.exe and Select “Run as Administrator”.

 

Step 3: Enter the password used to Lock the machine in the Password box: (The White Box Below)

 

 

Step 4: Press the “UNLock” button. You should receive the following confirmation message:

 

 

That’s it! Your machine is unlocked and you’ll be able to use F8 and other boot option keys until you choose to re-lock the system.
